The Level 2 – Timber Work Operative / Skilled Carpenter course is designed in line with UK construction safety standards to develop the practical skills and safety competence required for carrying out timber and formwork activities on active construction sites.
This programme builds on basic awareness and focuses on safe timber cutting, fixing, and jointing techniques, as well as the correct use of formwork systems for slabs, beams, and columns. Participants are trained in the safe operation of power tools, including saws, drills, and nail guns, with emphasis on risk control and accident prevention.
The course also addresses working at height, temporary works awareness, and COSHH requirements related to wood dust, adhesives, and treatment chemicals. Fire risks associated with timber construction are covered, alongside effective prevention and control measures.
The training aligns with UK Health & Safety principles, promoting safe systems of work, competence development, and compliance with site and regulatory requirements.
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
Carry out timber cutting, fixing, and jointing safely and accurately
Understand and work with common formwork systems for slabs, beams, and columns
